Opinions / Thoughts - Why Public Investing over PE?

In thinking about the next steps of your journey post-IBD (or directly out of school), I'd like to hear your arguments for why public investing (HFs, asset managers) over private.

I like to personally invest in stocks. However, I was always shunned away from the public investments side as a career because of the secular trend toward passive (vs. active), the difficulty of obtaining unique info in public markets, and what seems like to me the impossibility of beating the markets (or at least, hard to beat holding a broad based ETF over the long-run).

So, I ask you - what made you want to follow Graham / Buffett's precedence and tackle public markets as a career?
