Overleverage

How do you know if a company is overleveraged? My thoughts are you look at cash flow squeeze, upcoming bullet payments (but these can also be refinanced) and leverage ratios (but how do you know what’s the magic range to target).

Looking to hear your thoughts on this and even better if you have books/articles that you can suggest.
