Perspective
Had a moment today (while begrudgingly talking with some student looking to network which is something I rarely do anymore...) where I realized that I had kinda become (on paper) the guy I wanted to be. It’s a weird feeling. Good banking job to good hedge fund job. So easy to get caught up in the race that you lose sight of where you’ve been along the way. Feels like an important perspective to think about for those who haven’t given it much thought like myself and just wanted to post it here for others. Funny enough the last time I posted on this page was 6 years ago when I was looking for hedge fund interview tips. 6 years later I guess I have the job, not all the answers and the same amount of self doubt as to whether or not I’ll “make it” in the industry. Wonder if anybody has had the same types of feelings?
... for those new guys and gals just starting out, just keep going. There’s gonna be a lot of times when you’ll want to quit. Just keep going. So many people fizzle out. I’m not the smartest guy in the room but I’ve been pretty good at holding on. Opportunities open up.
