Private Equity Finance Institute - Scam? Reviews?

So I'm looking to catch up to speed to transition my career from sales to become more of the analyst role. A friend suggested I take some courses on financial modeling, learning how to create valuation models on excel. Of course, I can go and pick up several books, but like many, I need some structure that will help me obtain these skills. I'm a very quick learner.

Main question is this Private Equity Finance Institute. Please do not mistaken this for Private Equity Institute.

This company goes by PEFIN, or private equity finance institute. I can't seem to find nothign on this company. They have like 10 different web addresses.

www.lbopro.com
www.mnaschool.com
www.pefin.com

Everything seems fishy, however I've been in contact with the person and they have been sending me some contracts, etc, but everything without their personal names on the agreements.

The office location is in one of those places where you rent office space to host a seminar. They wanted to set up a meeting, but I'm truely at a standstill to even meet them.

I just want to continue to learn, advance my career, and learn pretty much the topics covered on their website because their curriculum looks really good for the price, but again, all preliminary research on the company just doesn't line up.

I was also looking to take a financial modeling training program in the Summer 2011. So after asking around, a friend of mine that took the course, recommended to me The Private Equity Finance Institute based in New York and London. After doing some research of my own and going on their website, I found that their reputation is good and their instructor’s seemed very experienced (and helpful). Frankly, their course seems exactly what I am looking for: accounting, finance, and excel training. And their tuition fees are reasonable (about $3,500 for 80-hours of total classroom time). They also gave me the option to take the course on-site at their training location in NYC or on-line (which seems much more convenient, but requires a second monitor). My friend that was an intern at a private equity firm last summer, said that the course was VERY COMPREHENSIVE in terms of accounting, modeling, and valuation. I recommend that you go on their website and see their curriculum first:

http://www.pefin.com/curriculum.html and http://www.pefin.com/programs.html

Looks to be a scam. Their website says none of their teachers have less than 20 years' work experience, but one of the above articles mentioned by mbachicago states their main guy is 26 or something (article is 2 years old, and while a 2 year IB stint may seem like it lasts 20 years, well... it doesn't).

I'd stay the hell away. I highly doubt this training course will help you at all in getting a job. Anybody else with more then 10 banana points care to weigh in?
