Pros and cons of different roles in a siloed quant company

Since many SM quant company (Citadel/Two sigma/ HRT/ CitSec...) are siloed, I want to know what's the pros and cons of different roles (signal generation, portfolio construction, execution) as a QR. Do these roles have similar compensation/ job security/ upside/ etc? Is it easy to change your role as a quant? What would be the best role to begin one's career?
