Quant blowups?
Heard some quants had a rough week — a couple anecdotes of small teams getting shut down or coming close.
The ones I heard were from second-tier MMs with small setups.
Anyone know if this was part of a broader shakeout or just isolated bad luck?
Quant generally doing well in 24 and YTD. If you're talking about last week, perhaps those teams had a lot of momentum exposure, but no signs of a deleveraging yet.
Not a quant myself but last I know they are doing quite well YTD.
Depends if you’re a trend / momentum chaser or other type of quant. The mono guys got wrecked
CTAs + Trend had a tough time, something to be said about whether trend still exists in commodities in the same form the algos were built to harvest. Most other places been loving the vol from what i've heard.

Have gotten confirmation from friends in sys strategies about this. The “nobody knows why” part is particularly intriguing. I wonder if it’s a large player slowly unwinding but that seems like a silly way to go about it.
