Quant Headhunters
Anyone know which search groups work closely with the quant funds? I'm not sure where to start, most of my friend in banking are starting to talk with the gobuysides/dynamics etc for more of a fundamental shop, are these solid places to reach out to with my goals?
If you have the right background, you don't have to go the recruiter route. I would recommend that you focus on finding building a target list of top Quant Shops and starting networking/applying

Monkeys, I need your help in a big way. I am a recent Ph.D. grad in a STEM field looking to get into either quant/trading or AM work. There is no doubt that this is what I want to do and now the only thing is to break the paycheck addition to my current science job and go.
I've been looking at Wilmott, efinancialcareers.com, etc. -- but what I'd like to know is simple: what is the best way to recruit for quant/trading or AM positions?
GS has a fellowship program that I will be applying for, and I have submitted a CV to their general pool as well. I am not at all hung up on the bank's size or prestige. It's the work I'm interested in and I will go with anyone who will take me.
Also, is this just an insane time to be trying to break in? There has got to be thousands of experienced guys in the existing pool of quant labor right now.
With a technical PhD you shouldn't have a problem landing interviews. Apply everywhere you can, have you spoken to any (reputable) headhunters? and :
"I will go with anyone who will take me"
try not to come off as desperate....
