Rates/FX Sales to macro HF

Hi, I have recently been given an opportunity to work most likely on the FX/or rates desk in a sales position, and wondering if I would still have the opportunity to move to the buy side in a macro analyst/trading/PM position in the future, or if that will realistically require me to move first to a trading or research position on the sell side? Thanks
