Recovering lawyer looking to move to HF
Former attorney here looking to move to an event driven fund.
I have spent the last few years at a large AUM (100b+) private investments platform first as an attorney and then as an investment professional in the catch all investments group that also does distressed (similar to Apollo hybrid value or Tac Opps).
Note the platform isn't a traditionally thought of megafund (think Brookfield, Neuberger Berman, Orrix, Canadian pensions).
Any tips on recruitment here with a relatively nonstandard background? I'd ideally not want to be in a credit only type shop which seems where alot of these paths lead for people with law degrees.
I like my seat and investment types / variety but hate the process driven nature of the work, drafting 100+ page IC memos, for a deal developed on napkin math. I also like the research part of my job a bit more.
Not a ton of experience prior to this role so still relatively young and can take some professional risk.
