Resources to learn more about hedgefunds and what they do etc.
Hey everyone! I want to apologize beforehand if this isn't a good question, but my knowledge in this area is pretty limited. I recently received a summer 2026 bulge bracket IB offer. As a result, since i have a lot of time on my hands for this summer, I've been very curious about hedge funds and how they generally operate and what sort of work and knowledge analysts/associates have.
I know there are numerous youtube videos online, but I feel like none of them really go into the details, which is what im interested in. I want to learn as much as I can, and I do want to eventually exit into a hedgefund. Is there like a free course where I can learn everything? books i should read? I know the work that bankers do is probably pretty different than what those at hedgefunds do. any advice or insights would help. Thanks!
Google and ChatGPT to start with. Then WSO for specific questions
This book is pretty good at getting you to understand the mechanics of how HFs operate from a technical standpoint: https://www.amazon.com/Handbook-Hedge-Funds-Fran%C3%A7ois-Serge-Lhabita…
Damn thats expensive as hell
I have found pdf version of it somewhere on the internet (albeit the version is a bit older) - DM if interested

Do you have another link? it keeps re directing me to some pop blocker. thanks!
More Money Than God is a fun read and has a few sections on the origins of hedge funds...for something more modern the Financial Times had a long form article on the rise of multi-managers / pods which was decently informative
