Thoughts on FinTech industry as a career? Specifically Order/Portfolio Management System software

Hi,

Wanted to get peoples thoughts on the FinTech industry pertaining to Order/portfolio management System software providing services to Buy-side with Execution, Compliance, PnL, Positions, Accounting, etc.

I have been looking at some positions within these types of software companies. Looks very interesting especially Sales where you basically meet with Buy-side firms and customize the software to help them. Seems like good exposure to firms as well. Has anyone heard of PM's/Traders switching over to technology firms such as these? Just looking for some information/ career path possibilities within this industry. Thanks

Ok thank you for the feedback. Aren't these types of systems/technology putting traders out of jobs somewhat? At least purely execution traders? I'm leaning towards going into this industry because I don't want to purely go into Finance. I know I won't make as much money but it seems like capital markets are becoming more technology-driven so there is obviously solid money to be made with maybe less risk/stress as working for a hedge fund, etc. Any thoughts?

If you're planning to work in software sales/solutions you should look beyond the FinTech niche. Oracle, Salesforce, Microsoft, SAP and others can be extremely lucrative with a much wider market.
