Career Resources
Leave out any conversation of "getting paid more" in your interviews. Your conclusion surrounding trading is common and will most likely resonate with your interviewer. As opposed to money, I would say something like it "provides an attractive career trajectory" or something. Just my opinion.
You could add in that with M&A you have the opportunity for career advancement.
You can also make more as a trader, it all depends on how hard you work at it and how big of a book you can get so by saying that you'll make more in M&A is almost shooting yourself in your foot if you were to say it in an interview because that would show that you're not willing to work hard.
If that can help you I found an interesting website about salaries data: reports are really useful in your position "emolument:com"
