Transition within HF

I currently work at one of the biggest HF in a combo operational/investment role (think Citadel, Bwater, etc) is it possible to move to a more pure investment related role at a smaller fund? Pay right now is great for the role however not much upside moving forward. 2 years out of undergrad.
