UK recruiter claims he can't tell me any clients' names until he has my CV due to GDPR

Any truth to this at all or just another snakey tactic?

Definitely sounded like bullshit to me when he told me over the phone - his explanation was pretty jumbled, just kept mentioning GDPR and data privacy laws. No idea why I had even agreed to this call in the first place to be honest, could tell it wasn't going to lead anywhere.

Rubbish. Seems like a pretty insecure recruiter who is probably not doing very well so is clutching at straws (i.e. doesn't want to give anything away). Why are you going through a recruiter anyway? I'll tell him you're not interested and avoid him. I've never had a good recruiter do this.

However, I have noticed recruiters want to get their hands on your CV. Not sure why...Anyone has any idea why they want your CV so desparately?

To be fair in my experience recruiters tend to try and keep the company a bit ambiguous until they get you on the phone. It's definitely just a marketing tactic since I'm sure they are evaluated on KPI's such as call volume / etc.

Never had someone in the US try to bullshit that there were protectionary laws against it though... seems sketchy.
