Value Investors Club Application Pitch Feedback

Hey everyone! I recently moved to the second step in VIC's new application process and would love to get feedback on my pitch. If anyone's interested in reviewing / sharing feedback, happy to PM.

Any and all advice is appreciated. Feel free to be extremely blunt, no need to sugar coat any shortcomings, it's all part of the process. Thank you so much!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some tips and advice for refining your Value Investors Club (VIC) application pitch:

  1. Clarity and Simplicity: Ensure your pitch is straightforward and easy to follow. Avoid overcomplicating your thesis with excessive jargon or unnecessary details. VIC values clear, concise, and well-structured arguments.

  2. Strong Investment Thesis: Focus on presenting a compelling investment thesis. Highlight why the stock is undervalued, the catalysts that will unlock value, and the risks involved. Make sure your argument is backed by solid data and logical reasoning.

  3. Valuation Metrics: Include key valuation metrics and comparisons to peers or industry benchmarks. This demonstrates your ability to analyze and quantify the opportunity effectively.

  4. Catalysts: Clearly identify the catalysts that will drive the stock's value. VIC members often look for actionable ideas with a clear path to value realization.

  5. Risk Assessment: Address potential risks and how they could impact your thesis. This shows that you’ve thought critically about the investment and are prepared for counterarguments.

  6. Presentation Style: If your pitch is written, ensure it is well-organized with a logical flow. Use bullet points, headings, and concise paragraphs to make it easy to read. If it’s verbal, practice delivering it in a confident and engaging manner.

  7. Feedback Integration: Be open to feedback and willing to revise your pitch. VIC is known for its high standards, so incorporating constructive criticism is key to improving your chances.

If you'd like more specific feedback, consider sharing the structure or key points of your pitch with peers or mentors who have experience with VIC or similar platforms. Good luck!

Congrats on step two!

Few things the committee is actually looking for that most candidates underestimate:

  • Variant perception that couldn't have been written by a sell-sider. If the street could have published it, it won't pass.
  • A bear case that genuinely threatens the thesis. Steelman it, then explain why you own it anyway.
  • Sharp writing. VIC is a written format - how you construct the argument matters as much as the idea itself.

Don't hesitate to dm before you submit - I review pitches for candidates going through exactly this at The Final Pitch
