Weiss Asset Management
Thoughts on Comp, Culture, Track-Record, and Trajectory? What do exits and progression look like? AUM/IP is pretty low but starting pay is very high. What strategies do best?

Career Resources
Weiss Asset Management is known for being a multi-strategy hedge fund, and while specific details on their strategies and performance aren't fully outlined in my knowledge base, here’s what can be inferred:
Compensation: Starting pay at Weiss Asset Management is reportedly very high, which aligns with their reputation for attracting top-tier talent. This is a significant draw for candidates, especially those early in their careers.
Culture: While there isn’t detailed information on their internal culture, hedge funds like Weiss often emphasize a performance-driven environment. It’s worth considering how this aligns with your personal work style and career goals.
Track Record and Trajectory: Weiss has been around for a while and operates as a multi-strategy fund. However, their AUM/IP is noted to be on the lower side compared to some larger players. This could mean they focus on niche strategies or have a more concentrated approach. Their trajectory would depend on their ability to scale strategies and attract more capital.
Exits and Progression: Hedge funds with high starting pay and a focus on performance often see strong exits into other funds, private equity, or even entrepreneurial ventures. Progression within the firm would likely depend on individual performance and the fund’s growth.
Strategies: While specifics aren’t detailed, multi-strategy funds typically diversify across equities, credit, macro, and other asset classes. Identifying which strategies perform best would require deeper insights into their portfolio and market focus.

Bump
Idk abt the progression, but their first year (out of school) comp package is on-par, if not higher than that of Jane Street
Any chance u know how they’re able to pay so much? AUM / IP is low as has been repeated ad infinitum in past threads on Weiss
I’ve had a same question about that, but I honestly couldn’t figure out.
I heard their fee structure is extremely sweet but still some numbers I heard can’t make sense without top guys taking less shares of profit.
they do?? JS pays at least 400k im pretty sure weiss doesn't? also what role is this for, like a QT role or fundamentals
If you think any fundamental role is paying 400k out of udg you’re sorely mistaken
JS is more than 400k. Their new grad quant trading base is 300k. I have heard that the new grad all in comp is 550-625k.
Anyone been a PM at Weiss? How does portfolio management work as apparently there isn’t an allocation of capital? What’s the comp for PMs?
And given the track why don’t they manage 10-20bn?
Anyone knows more in terms of their setup, allocation, comp etc? Thanks
