I have read and heard conflicting things about this topic and was curious...how likely is it for someone working at a HF in SF to move to a NY Based hedge fund?

What is the controversy?
I've heard people say that you basically get stuck in SF once you come here for finance (IB/PE/HF - any of those). So just wanted to get out to the masses through this forum and get a more defined answer.
Personally know over 5 people who have made that move. What's the issue?
Some multi-manager HF firms have teams on the west coast. Some analysts from these teams occasionally move offices - sometimes to NYC. So it's possible
