What areas of the hedge fund industry are actually growing and deserve to grow?

fundamental long/short equity hedge funds face redemptions, declining fees and firings on a regular basis. this makes sense and is well deserved; most fundamental long/short equity funds do not earn their fees and they do not as a group create much value for their limited partners.

are there any types of hedge funds that enjoy greater assets, rising fees and more seats each year (other than pure quant funds)? if so, what are these types of funds? rather than talking about specific funds I am more just interested in the general trends.
