What's your journey into the HF career?

I am working as a consultant in infrastructure and energy (mainly renewables) transactions, middle-market ones and occasionally bigger deals, for some large and well-known PE clients, not IBD, a niche field of consulting/advisory, based in NYC.

I had a sell-side equity research internship at a LMM before, but didn't stay because of that MD who is a jerk and a control freak. I'm abot 3-4 months inot my job now, while I like it, I like the nature of being able to dig deep into a company and think critically about why a company is a good buy or a good short-sell. I read extensively, 30-40 books per year and I spend time reading about macroeconomics, political economy as well as financial markets. Ideally, I would somehow pivot into a HF, small or big, I don't really mind.

For those of you working in a HF right now:
1. whats your background before you came into this field
2. how many years of work experiences you had before the HF
3. what major were you suppose you got into a HF shortly after you graduated and you actually got the job through working towards it not becase your uncle is Paul Tudor Jones
4. what backgrounds do you colleagues come from
5. what is your fund's strategy and in what areas does your fund invest in
6. where is your fund based
7. how much coding do you use ?
