Where should I get work experience in my first two years before Grad school if pursuing a career in HF

I'm 17 from Toronto I'm going to business school next year, I want to work for a HF and all my peers told me you go into IB then grad school and then HF, but I recently talked to someone who's been in IB and he told me that you pretty much have to sell your soul, so I'm not really enthusiastic to waste 2 years of my life working as a slave, does anyone know any other routes that are still credible.
