Why are Hedge Funds so Secretive?

Why are Hedge funds so secretive .There is no data available for them. Can someone become a top PM or Global head of equities/FI at a top Shop before 35(starting right after undergrad) and how? How much can a top PM or global head of ... at a $5B + firm make in a year.

“He was very responsive and prepared for the meeting. He actually read the JD, resume, and looked up linkedin which sometimes other mentors doesn't actually go over those to prepare things beforehand. I appreciate his direct comments I think it saved time and actually helped me to know exactly where to improve. I also appreciated him admitting if he doesn't know about specific HF strategy. Only thing I'd suggest for him is probably sending actionable key takeaways after the meeting because other mentors did and that was very helpful. ”

hedge funds are so secretive as to maintain their competitive advantage. their most priced possession is information and having an upper hand. 2. you could be a pm by 35 but u need to be really good at what u do and be lucky. 3. comp is highly variable but it'll definitely be a fuckton. could be in the 9 digits for the absolute top performers.
