Why are Hedge Funds so Secretive?

Why are Hedge funds so secretive .There is no data available for them. Can someone become a top PM or Global head of equities/FI at a top Shop before 35(starting right after undergrad) and how? How much can a top PM or global head of ... at a $5B + firm make in a year.

  1. hedge funds are so secretive as to maintain their competitive advantage. their most priced possession is information and having an upper hand. 2. you could be a pm by 35 but u need to be really good at what u do and be lucky. 3. comp is highly variable but it'll definitely be a fuckton. could be in the 9 digits for the absolute top performers.
