Best energy/utilities PMs? And stocks?

Best energy/utilities PMs?

Also curious what stocks are looking good in the space? Seems like most utilities are riskier bonds. E&P energy doesn't seem very prosperous. Only energy stocks I see with significant upside are nuclear or supporting AI infra.

Thanks

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insights into the energy/utilities space:

  1. Energy/Utilities PMs:

    • The context does not provide specific names of top-performing energy/utilities portfolio managers (PMs). However, it emphasizes that specialization in energy equity investing, particularly in Texas-based energy PE firms, offers unparalleled networking opportunities and career growth. These firms are known for their expertise in energy investments.
  2. Energy Stocks with Potential:

    • Natural Gas: There is a preference for natural gas over oil stocks due to its potential support from battery technology advancements. Natural gas is seen as a stable power source with less devaluation risk compared to oil.
    • Nuclear Energy: While not explicitly mentioned in the context, nuclear energy aligns with the broader push for decarbonization and ESG investments, which are highlighted as growing themes.
    • Renewables: Renewable energy investments are gaining traction, with significant opportunities in solar, wind, and energy storage. Smaller, decentralized solar projects and state-level policies are creating new markets. Companies like NextEra Energy Partners and developers like Invenergy, EDF, and Algonquin are active in this space.
    • AI Infrastructure Support: While not directly addressed, the context suggests that energy storage and peak demand management are areas of innovation, which could indirectly support AI infrastructure.
  3. Utilities as Riskier Bonds:

    • The context does not directly address utilities as riskier bonds, but it does highlight the challenges in the energy sector, such as the need for consistent free cash flow generation and the cautious approach of capital providers.

For more specific stock recommendations or PM names, additional research or insights from specialized forums might be necessary.
