Commodities after Graduation

I graduated this spring from a top tier university that is more known for its med school than anything else. Due to personal obligations , I stayed at home in the south during summers working blue collar jobs rather than pursuing finance internships. I am really interested in commodities (especially Oil/Gas) and was wondering if anyone had experience breaking into this field out of school. I was a varsity athlete in college and have a relevant degree but am having a difficult time getting traction in my search. Any advice would be immensely appreciated.
WashU or Vandy? I'd say the best thing you can do at the moment is network. Target the houston area on LinkedIn and go down the list of banks. If you can't find anything in IB, try ER/trading/operations (scheduling/risk). Commodities is a pretty small field that is largely driven by relationships.
