Long-Term Tech Industry Goal

I'd imagine plenty of tech enthusiasts envision a society characterized by AI, such as self-driving cars and significantly more automation in business. Are you an enthusiast and why? If the ultimate goal of tech is to have AI do everything, what will people do in business? Less roles will be needed since AI can do the heavy-lifting. I don't necessarily dislike tech since it is helpful, but it seems like it could get out of hand in the distant future.
