Twitter: To Charge Or Not To Charge

Oct 10 (Reuters) – “Twitter Inc's shares slumped more than 13 percent in early trading on Monday after a weekend Bloomberg report that top potential bidders, including Salesforce.com Inc , had lost interest in making a bid for the company.”

“How is this app still free?!!!” is a popular reaction by Twitter users, often to a hilarious and sometimes ridiculous tweet. Although, simply used as a rhetoric expressing the user’s disbelief at his or her easy and free access to entertainment via the online social networking service, it REALLY does beg the question, “How is this app still free?” Evident, from the quote above Twitter has been having a rough year. Struggling with stagnant user growth and continuous losses, its future seems even bleaker. So why aren’t Twitter users charged a small annual subscription fee to help solve Twitter’s seemingly unending problems? Is this a good idea?

What should happen, is not charging the users like me and you. But having to charge a fee for those who are legitimately monetizing it: - News Organizations - Kardashians - Smaller Accounts

An access fee, based on followers. After you hit 100K followers, charge something like $100 a month. That's $1200 in ARR (annual recurring revenue). And it increases by $10 per 10k followers.

With more than 1,000 accounts with 100K followers, then you're looking at a couple million in more revenue. Apply that down the road. Every 10K followers it cost $10/month for unlimited posting.

With over 10K accounts that have 10K followers: that's an extra boost to revenue.

Go from there. Charge the big players (think WSJ/NBC) something in excess of 5K a year.

I think they need to get B2B up and running. It's too hard to monetizing something B2C which most users don't NEED really.

Fixed. I had originally thought of it at $200 a month. But forgot to fix it. Gracias.
