Why do people make investing tutorials at all?

Something like Khan Academy's finance section makes sense, as do other sites and programs that just seek to educate people about the basics of finance, markets, etc., and don't discuss explicit strategies. But for all of the other websites, seminars, and YouTube tutorials on charts, algorithms, etc., that detail specific strategies, what's the point? Even if they're ones that require you to pay money, wouldn't they be harming the creator in the long run by taking away their strategy's edge?

The legitimacy of online investing/trading courses is equivalent to the legitimacy of rolex watches in chinatown.

Just remember: they wouldn't waste time making youtube videos if the strategies were any good.

That's my thinking... but then how on earth am I supposed to learn?

Thick stacks of paper sheets, books. I started investing this summer and picked up tons of new fresh books at my Chapter. I think Trading for Dummies is really good. You also have the classics: Tech Analys by John Murphy, Peter Lynch, etc... I think that is a massive mistake retail investors do. They try to fin strategies pre-made and some are ready to pay for that. 1. Get the knowledge 2. Start off with a simulator 3. Look at sites like Seeking Alpha to get investing ideas. ANALYZE carefully how the investing ideas are created by others. When you start understanding how more experienced investors/traders learn, then you can put out your own investments. learn from experience. 4. Stay up-to-date with the markets, via YahooFinance. I also like to listen to OnlineTradingAcademy's free daily podcast on iTunes. G/T 30 mins of blabber about the state of the markets, derivs and currencies. I will just plug it in when leaving home, and by the time i'm at high school I already know what happpened in the markets the day before, prior to the session actually opening. Hope it helps a bit. Starting off is confusing as hell, alot of resources.

If you have any questions just keep posting here.

Thanks for all the info :D I guess my question about all this was because I started looking at Supply-Demand zones, and was wondering if they were legit or not; too many people preach it on too many forums :/
