1st year analyst - should I Quit?

Current first year analyst at a BB debating quitting 4 months into the job. Here’s some context:

Never targeted investment banking. Got sort of lucky during the recruiting process and landed a role without much of the typical grind required. Did the 10 week internship and was miserable. Ended up accepting the return offer because of “how good the opportunity was” and honestly just not wanting to recruit my senior year, and deep down felt a gut wrench when accepting it.

I’m living the consequences of it now. I have no desire to go into high finance or pursue PE. I hate the hours and unpredictably and find it hard to find motivation to do good work. If I could do it all over again, I would recruit for a “more chill” finance job senior year and my ideal role right now looks like corp dev or something where I can work 40 hours a week with decent pay.

Would it be foolish to quit right now given the BB opportunity I have? Should I just suck it up and stick it out to a year or find a new corporate role asap. Would really like to leave as as soon as possible, do not feel like myself in IB.

Would say to stick it out a year, even two if you really can push it. PE and PC might be the same hours, but there are definitely shops out there with a lot better WLB, and that year or two would set you up perfectly for corp fin if you want

Feel the same way but I’m currently 9 mos on the job. Maybe a bit biased because i know bonus is coming around and have been headhunted/networked into some cool opps just by having the bb name but I think 1-2 years will be worth it for you regardless. Basically impossible to get fired so just do the bare minimum if you dont care about references etc and use all your free time to figure out what you wanna do next, it’ll likely be a year before you know it. Unless you find something exceptional the job security is hard to come by right now for juniors/new grads.
