2-Year Analysts - Rent in NYC

Canadian here - recently accepted a lateral offer as a second year analyst. I’m generally wondering about renting in NYC with analyst comp, so if you have any advice to offer up outside of my questions that would be much appreciated.

  • analysts, how much do you spend on monthly rent?

  • do you have a roommate(s) (seems like there’s no other option)

  • what is your after tax, take home bi-weekly pay?

  • do you live within walking distance of the office?

I have been browsing apartments as a I wait to start a gig in midtown. Would you mind PMing or posting building/area recommendations? Most of the singles I am seeing are in the low-mid $3k range, which is a bit pricey, but would love to do something under $3k. Browsed through the old SA threads, but feel like rental market is hot right now.

Unfortunately, think you answered your own question there - I signed my apartment this summer so I still got a covid deal (2 months free rent). My apartment would normally be like $3.1-$3.2k.

Have also heard from friends who are moving that prices are crazy rn still, so not sure you would be able to find the same deal.

One tip is to expand your location search on Streeteasy slightly outside their defined locations - I am right on the edge of what they define as Murray Hill so my place didn’t show up in my original search.

completely ignorant q here, do the banks provide health insurance coverage or is it just a subsidized amount? Not sure how employee insurance works as I go into FT
