2nd HireVue attempt for 2021 Early Careers...and I failed. Miserably.
Hey guys,
Does anyone have any tips on how to make myself feel better after doing horrible on a HireVue? For the past year, I've been applying to roles at GS, especially in their Early Careers division, to only be 'waitlisted' and told that I'd be notified if there are any available opportunities that fit my skill set.
A few months pass by, and I get the "Interview" update and "Resume Under Review" for a few roles I had applied to last year, but haven't had any updates.
Fast forward to now, I get an e-mail suggesting I re-apply to the 2021 Early Careers programs, and after spending 12+ hours trying to prepare for my HireVue, I shot myself in the foot. First question, I didn't have enough time to finish my answer. Second question I was stumbling to figure out what to say when trying to give a real example. Third question, my COMPUTER (not my phone, my MACBOOK) rings for a solid 2 seconds until I reject the call, all while I'm recording my answer. 3 out of the 5 questions I answered I honestly think I did shit with, but I KNOW I'm capable enough to excel in the roles I applied to.
I've been applying to jobs the past year. I've networked with a handful of people at this company. The only company so far that has been giving me a chance is GS, and now I feel like I'm definitely not going to get a call back because I didn't perform as well as I hoped.
What should I do? Would e-mailing them, apologizing for my computer ringing (which has never happens, and only happened because of a freak circumstance), and tell them I'm genuinely passionate about joining, or would that just deter them from ever wanting to hire me?
I'm at a loss. The first HireVue I completed last year, I thought I did great. Spent hours preparing for a variety of questions, to only have none of those questions asked. Stuttered. Got nervous. Fumbled with my words, and the worst part is, I feel like now I'm definitely out of the running.
Tips?
First of all, don't punish yourself. I am also pretty shitty at doing HireVues. Try practising in front of a mirror and spend more time preparing behavioral questions. I doubt whether writing them an email now would be helpful (don't think so).
