2nd year at bb, leaving to large cap PE
Absolutely killed it this year and reviews were amazing. Even got called by MDs I work with about performance after reviews before dropping the bomb on them that I am leaving
Is there a chance I get top bucket bonus or will there be a standard leavers bonus. Would suck to get bucketed with all the analysts that started slacking off in January

If you told them you're on your way out before getting the bonus, I wouldn't expect a top-bucket #. Top bucket bonuses are used to incentivize top performers to stay on as associates.

What is everyone talking about with not telling bank?
My bank found I was leaving the day i got a PE job after 3 months on the desk since the PE fund I was working at (UMM/MF) did a reference check.

I think perhaps in part due to later COVID start dates, bonus timing has been moved back and can be sometimes after the start date for PE jobs. I've seen a few analysts get fucked on bonus because of this, so you gotta really make sure that you understand all of the bank's policies so that you do everything you can to get full bonus even if at the end of the day the bank has full discretion.
