3.7 at semi target, how can I prep for recrutiing

Freshman at a good semi-target, looking like I'm going into recruiting next year with about a 3.7. I have an unpaid internship at a small boutique investment bank this summer. What should I be doing to prepare? Any books I should read? I'm going to have a lot of time this summer, and I don't really know too much about how/who/when I should be networking. I see some kids at my school in the grade above with better stats who didn't get offers, and that worries me. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

GPA: 3.7 is solid. Definitely try and bump up further sophomore fall semester 3.8+

Book: Rosenbaum and Pearl is amazing. Helps understand the conceptual. Try and do a modeling course alongside reading R&P to help merge conceptual with technical skill.

Clubs/Workshops: What clubs/workshops are you in right now that you can tap into mentorship. If none, I would advise joining a club asap and applying to any difficult to get into club/workshop. Ex: Kelley IBW
Mentorship is huge in this industry as there is so much nuance and detail in terms of networking, best practices, technicals, mock interviews.

Networking: I would recommend reaching out via very professional emails to any current undergrad at your school who both placed and didn’t place. 90/10 respectively. Gather as much info as possible, narrow down your strategy on how you want to attack recruitment.

Have chats throughout the fall if you are able to get in contact with bankers and plan to ramp up heavily right when December hits.

Resume: How can you bolster it further? Look at resumes/linkedins of kids who placed from your school for ideas of unpaid internships, clubs/workshops, bank-hosted shadow programs.

Get gpa up. Network. More internships=more success. Network with every single alum of your school and resend those emails until you get the call and prep for the call. Have a spreadsheet to keep up with your network. After that network with anybody and everybody in ib. Send at least 100 slightly personalized emails a day.

Also just recruited and can also say networking is everything, especially if ur not at a target. Do not rely on thinking you’ll get into a process via cold apply even if your resume is outstanding. I only got into 1 process via cold apply (at a bottom tier MM), everything else was thru referrals and networking.
