A Map of where Investment Banks are in Manhattan
I wanted to know where banks were in relation to each other, but alas I couldn't find a map that showed them all.
So, I made this fucking disaster:
Let me know if you want anything added.
ALSO: These locations are a "rough" estimate, don't use this shit to find your building on ya first day
This is really cool, interesting shift from Wall Street further up town. Pretty sure DB recently went to midtown as well is or soon (okay, soon as in 2021... calm down with the MS)
Glad you like it man. And yea its interesting to see the divide from midtown to the financial district.
B U M P
DB is still downtown, not moving to midtown until 2021-2022
I would re check Barclays and Wells Fargo those are both incorrect
pls fix and resubmit. thx
Can someone hit me with the addresses, I just went of the corporate site for the largest office in NY
CS couldn’t choose between the financial district and midtown?
Weird, right? Never understood that one.
Madison square park is pretty sweet, would have loved to do my banking stint there rather than midtown
I worked at Credit Suisse during that restructuring/move - they were planning to move much of their back offices to either NJ or CT. This was during Mayor Rudy's administration. CS wound up getting wide range of tax abatements from the city, utility rebates from Con Ed and other perks to stay in New York and keep the jobs here. The location was definitely not very choice when we first moved from mid-town to the Flatiron area - Madison Square Park was super-skivvy before Credit Suisse, NY Life, Met Life and restauranteur Danny Meyer and others invested/donated millions to doll it up. The park and surrounding areas were waaaay seedy in the 80s when I used to volunteer at GMHC on 21st St., you didn't walk through MSP unless you were looking for drugs, sex or trouble. The transformation to the Flatiron area has been truly epic. And to think, now MSP hosts US Open events and all sorts of foodie/beverage events too...quite the come-up
Very interesting. I started working in NYC only a decade ago so the backstory is pretty cool to know. Thanks for sharing this knowledge.
As you see it, is there any continued advantage to staying where they are?
I used to go to the Paris Baguette on 23rd and Park all the time and see these sharply-dressed, fully suited guys come in, looking so out of place, like from another planet... Madison Sq. Park really isn't known for being a business district lol.
Quick note:
Many financial firms moved from the Financial District (aka FiDi) to Midtown after 9/11
If any of you have ever lived in NYC for more than 2 months you'll know why all the banks/HFs/etc are only in Midtown and Fidi
I'll bite, I never lived in NYC. Why those two spots?
Nothing to necessarily bite on, without living in NYC you'd never know.
Nearly all of the office space in skyscrapers in NYC are in the Financial District and Midtown.
Regarding Banks - they are traditionally some of the largest employers in the world so naturally they need plenty of office space and only sky scrapers can accommodate this. Regarding HF/PE/etc - they are some of the only firms that can reasonably afford the same, high-end offices. You'll also see Fotune 500 companies, (i.e. Colgate Palmolive), Law Offices, and Consulting firms occupy the same buildings.
Lastly - there's actually a very scientific reason why all the skyscrapers are in Midtown/FiDi.....it's because the bedrock in other areas (TriBeca, SoHo, The Villages, etc) is literally not strong enough to support a building that tall.

Also, a large majority of more senior bankers move out of Manhattan eventually. The commute to midtown is much easier than downtown if you live in Connecticut.
Super helpful. Our undergrad program did this for all of the aspiring bankers. Somebody should post a fully comprehensive map of all banks that is updated by the community on a link/external site. Would be really useful for future analyst/summer analysts as they attempt to schedule their days/interviews/housing while in the city.
If you can recommend a platform to do this ill fuckin send it
Agreed.
Note that a lot of financial firms are migrating to the new Hudson Yards complex, including KKR.
This is actually pretty cool, why don't you do this on PPT instead of MS Paint? Also I think ABN AMRO is on the corner of Park Ave. and 42nd, should add those guys in too.
Sir this masterpiece was done in apple preview not fucking paint.
but yea ill add it
What is an ABN AMRO....
Cowen at 53rd and Lex.
Allen & Co. 55th and 5th
LionTree 61st and Mad (sickest logo imo)
Also if anyone has a really high res map of NYC (like this one but less blurry) that would be stellar
Google Earth
smart man
Anyone know if Related's Hudson Yards has signed or is pursuing any large IB's? I know KKR and others are headed there but curious about the banks.
Wells is moving there. I believe they are for Summer 2020 but not totally sure on the date
