Advanced Interview Questions: Actual Financial Statement Cases

Let me shed a bit of light on my question with two examples below:

A year ago I interviewed at one of the big boutiques and was handed a BS, the IS and CFS with a basic case study. If I recall correctly, I should evaluate if the company could do an acquisition and how it should be financed - I calculated a couple of relevant metrics, analyzed current financial structure as well as cash conversion etc but was not given any peers so I could not assess if my proposed new capital structure deviates significantly from industry standards etc.

At a HF I was once given 2 Income Statements of companies in the same industry of which one was operating at a significantly higher margin. After a bit of back and forth discussion, it became apparent that one of them had a higher percentage of sales in the more profitable after-sales market.

I experienced this to be rather consulting-interview-like with, of course, a strong linkage to M&A/ investing rather than the usual IBD questions on what drives a multiple etc. Has anyone seen similar case study-like questions in a guide or a similar source where you can practice/ get feedback on the analysis you conduct? Also grateful if you can list similar questions if that came up during your finance interviews!

Thanks!
