Advice for accepting Investment banking opportunity in the emerging market
Hello guys,
My goal is to get into investment banking in New York. I got a finance degree from a non-target school with no IB relevant experience. My initial plan was to find a good opportunity in NY then make my way to IB. However, I just received an investment banking opportunity in my home country. This firm is one of the top investment banking firms in Mongolia with low salary. Our capital market is growing at rapid pace so I can get exposure to most IB functions.
Most IB jobs in NY prefer candidates with 1-2 years of relevant experience. If I receive this opportunity would this count as a solid IB experience for top tier firms? How this experience would be valued worldwide? Can this experience add value to my future career? Is this hurting my chance to reach my goal?
What would the best way to reach my goal based on my current circumstances? Should I receive this opportunity and then start applying for jobs IB jobs in NY? Or should I just move to NY and start my job hunting there?
I have no visa problems in the US, and if I stay in Mongolia I can pursue CFA.
