Advice Needed: West Coast SA to New York FT - How Does It Work?

Hi monkeys,

I will be a SA on the west coast at a top firm in a good group. I have heard of NY as well and curious about the BB/EB's. BB. I have heard recruiting FT for New York positions from other locations can be very difficult and was hoping that someone could provide some insight about the process. Also, I understand that some banks run accelerated FT recruiting processes and wanted to know if those superdays occur before your SA stint ends. Do banks make offers for FT and provide short grace periods before signing?

Agreed with above. There's no sure way of knowing right now whether you'll get a NYC offer from doing this SF internship, but if you start building connections now, you'll definitely be in a good position to get to NYC. And it's important that you develop relationships with the people you speak to beyond just a surface-level acquaintance connection. Have genuine conversations with them, and demonstrate that you'd be a good person to work with. And have them refer you to other people at their office, to grow your network organically.

In terms of what kind of NYC offers you might get, the easiest offer to land would definitely be at the NYC offer of the same bank. However, as long as you keep networking and building connections at any firm you're interested in, you can get your name out there and land interviews. Be sure to go the extra mile during the summer in everything you do as well, so that you stand out as a star candidate. Overall, just work hard and network, and I'm sure you'll end up with the offer you want.
