Afraid of NYC

From Europe. Had a 10 day vacation trip planned with my family to NYC (staying in Manhattan downtown). Recent news about subway incidents are starting to worry me. Is my fear irrational?

New York is not safe at all, If i were you I would go to Chicago instead (especially the southside). It is very peaceful and safe

unless you're retarded, nothing will happen, don't touch Harlem or East Harlem and don't be that guy who tries to visit "duh unknown/forgotten parts of NYC haha so different and diverse!" and nothing will happen. Avoid Times Square if you can, because those who know can tell who are the dumb tourists really well. Avoid subway after 10 PM (I used to say 11 PM but it's getting bad). Times Square station is a third world country, avoid homeless people (simple to understand but tough to do), there are certain parts of Lower Manhattan that are really bad, like shitty pockets within otherwise really good/safe neighborhoods. If you wanna play it safe just spend most of your time in the UES or UWS lol
