All the interns in my group are good looking

Okay its funny there was a recent satirical post making fun of people posting stupid shit like what I'm about to post, but Im gonna do it anyway.

But seriously. I join our intern training today and none of the interns seem to have very solid backgrounds, but every one of them guys and girls (i'm straight i swear) is a very attractive individual. Do yall in finance just not like ugly people? I know for a fact there were some very qualified ugly people who applied.

I've noticed this as well. To be honest, I think it's sort of a self-selecting process.

Motivated kid (usually from decent background, sports, family, extra curriculars, etc) --> goes to good college (continues the sport, curriculars, surrounds with similar people etc)--> continues to stay driven --> good internship / makes the right connects (people like similar people, looks, background etc) --> hired by likeminded individuals

This isn't a set formula, but like i said, it's a self selecting process. How many ugly, morbidly obese juniors do you see at GS, BBs, or respected boutiques? not many..

While this might sound like BS to some you're not wrong. I dont remember who did this study a few years ago but it was basically that higher income (when controlling for many variables) correlated positively to better looks. Even though looks are subjective, one argument that was made was similar to what you mentioned in addition to people improving/maintaining their looks in order to have certain jobs/advance their career/move up the totem pole.
