Am I cooked for networking

I'm at a top target school and have sent probably 70-80 emails at this point and have only gotten one response. I'm feeling discouraged as I feel like it's quite late in the process to not have even had a single call yet when many of my peers have had many. I'm really confused on what the problem is as I'm pretty confident my formatting is fine - it's basically the same everyone else uses. If anyone has some tips for improving response rates pls lmk I'm worried I'm too cooked to even continue atp

It’s not over yet! Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some actionable tips to improve your networking strategy and boost response rates:

1. Refine Your Email Approach

  • Keep it short and to the point: Your emails should be no more than 5-8 sentences. People are busy, and concise emails are more likely to get a response.
  • Subject lines matter: Use clear and direct subject lines like “Informational Interview Request” to make your intent obvious.
  • Personalization is key: While templates are useful, make sure to include a personal touch. Mention something specific about their background, firm, or recent achievements to show genuine interest.

2. Timing is Everything

  • Send emails at optimal times: Monday mornings and Fridays are often great times to reach consultants or professionals, as they may have lighter workloads or be traveling.
  • Follow up strategically: If someone doesn’t respond, send a polite follow-up email about a week later. Persistence shows interest, but don’t overdo it.

3. Expand Your Outreach

  • Focus on alumni: Alumni from your school are often more willing to help. Use LinkedIn or your school’s alumni database to find connections.
  • Diversify your targets: Don’t just aim for senior professionals. Analysts and associates are often more approachable and can provide valuable insights.

4. Show Genuine Interest

  • Be curious, not transactional: Approach networking with the mindset of learning rather than just landing a job. People are more likely to respond if they feel you’re genuinely interested in their experiences.
  • Relate to their story: If you share a common interest or background (e.g., same school, similar extracurriculars), highlight it to build rapport.

5. Consistency is Key

  • Follow up regularly: For those who respond, maintain the relationship by updating them on your progress every 2-3 months. This consistency can turn initial contacts into long-term connections.

6. Leverage Other Channels

  • Use LinkedIn effectively: Send connection requests with a short, personalized note. It’s another way to get on their radar.
  • Attend events: If your school hosts networking events or career fairs, make the most of them to meet professionals in person.

7. Don’t Get Discouraged

  • It only takes one or two positive responses: Networking is a numbers game. Even if 70-80 emails haven’t yielded much, keep at it. Sometimes, it’s just about timing and persistence.
  • Learn from failed attempts: Reflect on your approach and see if there’s room for improvement in tone, structure, or targeting.

Remember, networking is a process, and even the best strategies take time to yield results. Keep pushing—you’re not cooked yet!

Should be sending 70-80 emails every 3-4 days, not over the span of two months.

If you are part of any political clubs I would probably remove them.

If GPA is below a 3.5 I would lie and say it’s a 3.7/4.0
