Am I wasting my time applying to IB Analyst Positions? =

3.43/4.0 GPA at St. Louis University (One year remaining, confident I can finish at 3.5) President of my school's Wall Street Club & a few other Finance-related involvements. Experience in Real Estate Development (Finance Side & some Biz Dev) Experience in Equity Research (Local Boutique, $5B)

I want to move into IB, but can't really get calls back. Do I have a chance at landing an analyst role at a boutique IB in Chicago/Milwaukee? I'm planning on MBA at best possible school in 3-5 years. What jobs should I go for after I graduate in May that would set me up for a shot at a IB?

Thanks

You certainly have a shot, ER position is awesome, you should be proud. I mean its not gonna be a cake walk, but target the smaller boutiques. Feel free to PM me, I have a pretty solid list (Chicago) and can walk you through my methods.

Its all hustle though, plain and simple. Reach out to 100+ people at boutiques and give a strong and personal cold email, and then evaluate your success. This should take you a while, but once done you can assess what your options are.

I would also recommend looking at cities out west. For example, I strongly considered moving to Denver (for personal and career reasons), and hit up a lot of the 10-30 guy shops out there. Everyone I spoke to was incredibly polite, helpful, and honest. Just show a true interest in both that firm and the person you are speaking with, have good questions ready, and be humble/polite.

Good luck
