I have protected Saturdays, and they're usually pretty good about respecting that. Generally we're expected to respond to Saturday emails with something like "ok, will handle tomorrow morning" or whatever, but the rule of thumb is that we basically don't have to do anything other than respond to emails. Sundays range from 1 or 2 hours from home to 8 or 9 hours at the office. Average probably ~3.

I agree with you to a large degree, but I do think there are occasionally things I'm asked to do on the weekend that actually need to be done. Usually when we're in late stages / final diligence / closing of a deal, when there's some sort of deadline on an LOI or term sheet.

I'd say that less than ~25% of the weekend work I do actually needs to be done on the weekend

When I was in IBD

BB London - 4/5 hours avg over the course of entire weekend.

At its worst 40 hours over the weekend & at its best no work.. there was no discrimination between Saturday or Sunday

When i was in banking I only worked two Saturdays over my two years (one was Santacon, that sucked)

Worked every Sunday during my first year, most days were 10 AM - 9 PM. My second year, i probably would do 2 Sunday's a month in the office from noon to 6 PM or so.

Was at a BB that had a protected Saturday's policy. NYC.
