Any other current juniors get absolutely boned for SA 2021?
I've been speaking to a lot of other kids and it seems like SA 2021 was just rough. Lots of kids struggling to get interviews even though their candidacy profile seems competitive. Would like to hear what you guys think and how your experience has been so far.
My backround: 3.7 at Semi-target, BB wealth management internship freshman summer, VC internship during school year, then small botique IB internship sophomore summer. Networked pretty hard (1-3 analysts at each place I applied) but only landed 2 first rounds and nothing else.
1-3 analysts at each place you applied is not a lot bro
Yeah I completely get that but my school doesn't have an absurd amount of people in IB, but I guess I could have reached out to random people, so my fault.
yea even students at targets will reach out to non-alumni, especially if referred internally
Fordham is not a semi-target
Seems the consensus on here was if you're school has OCR and On campus interviews it is definitely a semi-target
Fordham seems to have a decent alumni base across the street. Never heard of the school until I came across multiple bankers who went there.
1-3 analysts per firm is not close to enough unless for example 3 really liked you. Also, fordham is a non-target.
What happened with the first rounds?
The chance of someone getting 3 non alumni at a bank to push for you is honestly really low.
The chance of getting an offer without non alumni pushing for you is honestly really low too. Do you understand how many resumes we have to sift through?
3.8 from a target, with athletics and two PE summer internships. Only interest I've gotten is from a tiny boutique that just started interviews.
No-name PE? As long as you networked enough, your profile seems very strong for first rounds at the minimum.
Yes no-name PE, and yeah that's what I thought too
Did you network?
Yeah I talked with at least 2-3 people at each firm, but I guess I wasn't able to connect well enough.
Semi target ? (Amherst/Williams/Midd), have gotten 7 first rounds so far with not a ton of networking (i think only one was the result of networking with an alum)
Damn that's pretty impressive.
Those 3 schools are absolutely targets. Fordham is a nontarget.
Really? Thought we were viewed as semi
What was your GPA? And did you have any internships/impressive ECs?
3.7, 3 internships, 1 was MF Special Sits & Distressed (Apollo/TPG/OakTree type firm)
3.7, Prior HF experience, Varsity sports at a top 10 LAC. Have gotten 1 first round so far for ER. Didn't do a ton of networking though so it's expected.
3.9, nontarget with 0 prior experience. Have gotten 2 first rounds for FO roles and a couple for MO/BO roles at BB/MM. Nothing material yet, but hopeful.
Diversity at Mid-Ivy. GPA 3.8. Some networking. Superday-ed at GS, Citi. Still got fucked. Time to pack my bag bois
