Any view is ok - choice between IBD and equity research.

I know I may get biased view - but I do want to know - what would you choose - between a big bank's equity research role and a small boutique investment banking role. Would the experience in equity research make you a better stock trader - assume you can gain some in-depth knowledge regarding how the stock market work (access to a Bloomberg terminal :)?

Thank you so much.

Depends on what you’re more passionate about. If you like equity research type work then you’re in a perfect position probably doing it at one of the best places. If you’re using it to maybe lateral to IB at the same bank that might be difficult but I don’t think it would be as difficult as lateraling from a small EB (idk which one I’m just assuming it’s not a big name within EB). I’ve seen people go from Equity Research into Banking it’s not impossible.
Equity research 100% would make you a better stock trader, but there are restrictions that would prevent you from investing in stocks that the banks covers (there’s like a big list at each bank). I think if youre interested in Hedge Fund work too this is a great route since you’ll be solid at a lot of the technicals.

Edit: Personally I would maybe pick the boutique depending on deal flow, size, name, culture but that’s cause I’m not interested in ES or HF (think it’s cool just not for me).
