Anyone ever network with the big HF/IB/PE guys?
I remember reading that some kid on here networked with Frank Quattrone... anyone else do the same thing? Who'd you network with and how did you do it?
EDIT: TL;DR -- did anyone ever successfully cold email someone like Ken Moelis, David Einhorn, Blankfein or any of the other finance guys in that realm?
Don't really know if this counts, but I had the opportunity to speak with Mitchell Rudin, the current CEO for Mack Cali Realty. He was a really nice guy and very down-to-earth. We spent 15 minutes talking about our hobbies and we both had a common interest in surfing. Overall it was a very pleasant conversation!
I networked with a high up MD of a EB. Down to earth and very nice guy.

I'm more likely to send a cold email to a group head than an analyst. So I've spoken with some very senior MD's, CEO of a well known PE firm, and partners at top VC firms. A lot of them are very nice (I assume the assholes wouldn't respond to a non-target noob, like myself).

What's the long-term play here? Were you interested in soliciting a coffee and developing a relationship because of the prestige of their positions? Or are you maintaining the relationship for some ask down the line? Whether the ask comes sooner, or later, there will still be a request for your benefit right?
I know a few moderately well known people at some VCs and PE firms. Was always introduced by someone else. One was through someone working at the VC lower down that I met on shapr of all places.
Was able to speak with a co-founder of an EB. Very pleasant phone convo & invited me to stay in touch/get coffee next time I'm in NYC.
