Apply for both HK and US internships?

I read on this forum that it is looked down upon if you apply to two regions. Why is that the case? I am thinking about applying to HK and US offices, but I do not want to lower my chances for both offices.

Well the HR people told me that they keep track of you guys either way and at the interview they ask you "Do you want to go to HK or NY?" Hence, somewhat if you say you want to work in both doesn't make any sense..... Asia and US very different in terms of companies that you encounter...... Ask any recruiter and they will say please don't apply to two different regions.

i don't think hr matters much. i have several friends who got multiple offers applying to both regions. one turned down her hk offers to do ny recruiting. had no issues

For me, HK > NY > no internship. However, I do not have the language skills for HK, so the probability of getting an offer in NY is higher. If I have to apply to only one region, then I would have to choose between my 1st choice, HK, or my second choice, NY, that I would more likely get.
