My alumni at a boutique has referred me to get in touch with the head of PE at his firm over email and asked me to get an appointment with him.
I am not sure how would be my approach ... and write an email to the head of PE ... shall I CC my alumni too? Would woul be a good thing to wirte and how long should be the email.. guys ur feedback will be great!

Just send an e-mail to him mentioning that you know alumni x and wanted to see if he has anytime available bla bla bla... Not a long e-mail, please. Brief but concise...
I just wouldn't copy the alumni on the e-mail.
