Appropriate to send gift after informational interview?

Is it appropriate to send a gift to an alumni after you meet face to face for an informational interview as a way of saying "thank you", or would this be viewed as silly and unnecessary? I was thinking some cigars. I am a student and cannot legally purchase alcohol, so that is out.

Don't bother. It won't likely score you any points and it may make the alumnus feel a bit awkward accepting a gift from a student.
