Ask HR to change my SA application to off-cycle internship?

Hello everyone. I recently had a superday with a top BB for a 2020 SA position in APAC. I just learned that I was waitlisted. One of the interviewers really liked me and is still pushing for me, but I figured it'll be a long shot for me to get off the waitlist since nobody's going to turn down an SA position at a top BB. Considering that the headcount for SA positions is very limited in Asia, I was wondering if I should ask HR to consider me for the bank's off-cycle (industrial placement) internship program, for the same division that I interviewed for. I figured there's probably less competition for industrial placement internships. Is this something you would recommend?
