Asking for return SA instead of FT?

Long story short, had some medical/health problems last semester that caused me to withdraw from some important classes, and as a result, pushed my graduation out by a semester (Fall 2021 instead of Spring 2021).

Will be working at a firm as an SA this summer, but I want to know if it would be possible to ask for a return SA offer for the next summer instead of a FT offer once the time comes? I can still technically graduate on time, but it would be a serious stretch during my senior year (20 units each semester at a T15 school & an online class this summer while I’m interning). Taking 20 upper division units would certainly effect my GPA and would not be helpful for MBA programs when I get to that process.

Since my graduation date during recruitment was still Spring 2021, not sure how to approach this. Any advice would be appreciated.

Went though your exact scenario minus the medical situation, they were really supportive but I think you should let them know before your internship ends. Depending on your relationship with HR (and others opinions on this forum) they love the transparency and if they reached the end preparing to offer you a full time position, it would probably be a hassle for them to reconsider you for the SA. I don't think you would have to interview but some programs have pretty formal pipelines
