Background checks
Last summer I interned at a smaller firm. Due to it's administrative setup, I had to be self-employed. I confirmed that this was legally permissable.
Could this cause problems in future background checks? I do not have any paystubs or documentation due to the self-employment.

Ill let others opine but it should be fine if you have someone to back you up that you actually worked there. I'm sure background check people know that unpaid internships are usually not documented and are ad hoc
