BamSEC vs FactSet
Do you guys handspread comps and link to BamSEC or FactSet? Or does your team just use the FactSet formulas (easier, but less auditable)?

Use FS to cross check, but FS is not necessarily always correct.
Factset formula of course. Lol @ hand-spreading everything. FS is actually quite accurate.
BamSEC is goated too though
This is only true for extremely standard GAAP figures. But anytime you need Non-GAAP, specifically timed metrics (Guidance at a certain point in time) Factset is a black box that is often pretty wrong (or if not, wrong it doesn’t exactly pull what you need).
bamsec for sure, better faster platform. factset works too but we don’t use the formulas as they’ve been off a few times, plus you’d have to go back to filings anyways because good luck getting thru fairness saying you used factset formulas
FactSet / CIQ is more accurate than manually hardcoding figures

I don’t trust Facstet/CIQ (even though I’m sure they’re fine).
I also find it helpful for my process to hand spread and think through how things have been reported over time vs. looking at standardized financials.
Hand spreading doesn’t take that long and is also a nice data entry break to give my brain a rest.
